Hello! Hope all is well on the interwebs. A while back Colin and I decided we wanted to create a set of alphabet cards. It's just too appealing of a project for 2 illustrators who love character design and also have an almost equal passion for typography. Here is WIP of an impala. I just wanted to share the overall style of what some of them are going to look like. I'm excited about adding more line work for texture and of course some cool hand lettering. One of my favorite things about doing this project is the studies I get to do of the animal in my sketchbook. And also getting to learn cool things about the animals. ANIMALS ARE AMAZING!!!!! I'm going to post some of my process sketches and studies later possibly tonight.

Wow. I'm eating crumpets from Trader Joes for the first time and they are blowing my mind. It's hard to impress someone that loves a morning cup of joe and something bread-y but still. They are DELISH! On another note, I wanted to share some sketches I did of some lovely ladies at Dr. Sketchy's. And for the record just because they like to pose half naked and shake their little booby tassles doesn't make them strumpets...:)

Sarah A. Walsh, a married lady with a new name who has been neglecting her blog. So, in an attempt to be more of a regular blogger I'm starting by sharing some pics and artwork Colin and I did for our big day. We worked our little artsy fartsy butts off creating our invite package, wedding favors, terrariums, cake toppers, you name it...and it was our first collaborative effort! As far as the event, it went off without a hitch and felt more special than we could've ever dared to dream of, thanks to our friends and family, especially the "Ukes of Love". Special thanks to my amazing daughter, our helpful wedding party, beloved friend Padre Pete, Dierdre Hanlon Jones, our amazing photographer and last but not least my mom-in law, Sandy, for hand making our bouquets!

What it is about them? Red heads are known to be feisty. This one is anyway. She's thinking about the the next batch of trouble she's going to get into. Also, the color red is such a cheery sight in the dead of February-the long part of winter. Boo....But Valentine's day is right around the corner. Yay, more red! I've been wanting to experiment with paper, texture and collage as well. I'm just warming up!

This is another piece I did for DRAW WHAT YOU DIG. I've always loved the word haberdashery and Paul Rand has always inspired me with his playful letter forms, shapes and simple characters. What a genius he was! My professor in college met him and I think she had a tiny crush on him ever since.

A few studies of Tomahawk Tassles...the timely burlesque model at Dr. Sketchys on Sunday night. Tassles was chatty and wouldn't sit still for the most part but WOW...was she curvy. I mean...her waist was so small and then her booty was like "badow"! I was seriously considering having a few of my ribs removed or maybe have some of my chub from my midsection transplanted to my butt. Either way she was fun to draw because her "cartoon like" proportions. Fun was had by all and I'm glad I didn't poop out on you Colin ;) cause' it's hard to get motivated on a Sunday night sometimes.

We all have one....What's yours? Mine seems to be an ape yeti guy. After seeing a drawing of him my dear friend said to me..."That's you!" and I said "Wow...ya know what, you're right. It totally is." There you have it......the most interesting/shortest story you've heard *_* Anyway....it's fun to think of what some of the reoccurring characters we draw represent to us....sub-consciously.
On a side note, a friend bought this piece at our most recent art fair and her son liked it so much he brought it to show-n-tell at school. Honestly that is one pf the coolest compliments EVER :) for realz. Ty, this blog is a shot out to you and your cool mom :)

Long time no blog.....Welp, I have a good excuse. I've been making art for a gallery show, throwing a bridal shower and prepping for a HUGE art fair at Hallmark Corporation. In the near future I'll start to plan the wedding of myself and my best bud in the world but one thing at a time :) Click on Itty Bitty to view the rest of the treasury on Etsy. The Weanie Roast made it in :) All her choices have the yummiest color palette. I LOVE the plates from the netherlands she put in there. But wow, shipping is ooh wee! a lot. My fiance (i've been saying beyonce) designed this for our show that's coming up. I'm SOOOOOOO excited!!!! Such a talented bunch. A few of us smacked our heads together and came up with the idea of each artist doodling on a letter and then that would be the signage for the show as well as the poster. I think it came out great. Big BIG news.... August 7 my best friend asked me to marry him. We've been on goo island ever since. We have so many fun projects we wanna work on together starting with our show in September and just going on and on. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Also, this weekend Michel and I rolled out some new product at Artilicious and also made some new friends too! We made little paper mobiles and sewed candle cozies with our own artwork printed on the fabric. Michel sewed her butt off and i'm so proud of her!

What's new with you? The summer is in the melty slow motion phase and peeps, myself included, are getting summer grumps. But I gotta keep movin'. Lovely fall will be here soon....Anyway,new work/product is coming up! TONS! An art/craft fair called Artilicious (August 14), my first gallery show with my BF Colin and many other friends called DRAW WHAT U DIG (September 3), and Art Unleashed (August 27?). Fun fabric product, some paintings, transfers and more :) I'm printing some of the designs on fabric with my trusty ol' Epson R1900. This printer is a clydesdale I swear. I've been planning on using Spoonflower for other stuff but my buddy Flora said that they're 3 weeks behind so I may have to print it all on my bud Epstein because I'm not the BEST time planner. Stay tuned!

Just can't seem to get a blog flow goin'. So freakin' busy at the day job. I'm working on some stuff I'm not at liberty to share yet...but when I do it's going to hopefully be pretty exciting :) But here's a few words to tease you with if everything I've been working on doesn't blow up in a puff of smoke because of corporate silliness. Art on the Hill is coming up! Sandy, my lovely co-worker and friend puts this on every year with her husband. They make really cool Birdhouses together.I think my bf is going to sell his T's and prints there too. This is our first time participating in it. Welp, self promotion isn't my fave thing but if I want Petit Reve to flourish, flourish Michel all the way to France, then that's what I gotta do. So...in that respect, this week has been exciting for P Rev. We are in 2 Kansas City stores now! The first is Hammerpress, a highly respected and adored letterpress company with an awesome barber shoppe dead smack in the middle of it. We're very grateful to Amber, Lindsay and Brady (the guy behind it all).
The second store is Bon Bon Atelier, a lovely store containing some of the cutest stuff in Kc. It's run by 2 super cool sisters, Emily and Betsy. Thanks so much ladies!

Red Foxy Brooch

I bought a pack of Shrinky Dinks about a year ago and my BF and I messed around with them here and there but it fizzled out. (The Dinks, not the BF ;) Anyway...So I bust them out a couple nights ago and it clicks. Shrinky Dinks are a perfect medium for me to get my doodles out in a graphic way. The medium really lends itself to my style. So I'm really excited about all the things I could make with this stuff! I posted this little guy on Etsy and he was sold by the next day courtesy of this awesome designer named Bee of Little Beehive Design in Melbourne, Australia. Thanks for purchasing Foxy, Bee!

My not so little one has dreams of traveling abroad and well, I just think that's super brave and cool. So I'd like to make it happen for her gosh darn it!!! We'll be selling art prints and other hand made goods-all original art made by Michel and yours truly. Hopefully within the next 2 weeks we'll have stuff up. So stay tuned!

So I got a new moleskin planner for christmas and I love it. It now has me addicted to tiny notebooks with rounded off corners. I was on the supa' cool blog Modern Craft and I stumbled upon The Field Notes Shop post they did back in October. My Bf turned me on to a more than cool event that happens every other Sunday night called Dr. Sketchy. Burlesque girls and interesting peeps alike gather and draw, drink...chat about art or not....and the atmosphere is inspiring. If none of the models inspire you to pick up a pen, there's a mix of random objects laying to draw as well while super cool music fills the air. I like it. Here's my fave sketch I did last night.
Dolly Du Maul and Bijou Merlot were their stage names. Pretty fun :)

Wes Anderson is a freakin. genius. Thanks to my better than good pal Mimi, for recommending this movie to us while it was still in the theater. My mon cherie and I saw this last night and we loved it so much we rushed home to paint and doodle. I couldn't help but be one tracked and paint..ugh...foxes :)

Aaah...back in the day where I used to sit at Hallmark, me and my best Softee buddy Steph would all take turns at the microwave heating our oats (preferably steel cut) like hobos huddled around a fiery trash can, heating our impaled scraps up on a cold winter night. Those were the days! I've since re-located to a new dept. but I still have my oatmeal in the morn'. Alone..sniff sniff. Miss ya Steph :) A friend at work was admiring a poo sign I doodled near my "oatmeal Station" in my cube. She requested I make one for her and because she is such a doll, of course I obliged. I kinda think "Fiber!!! YAY! has a ring to it.

a poster I did for my band Softee. We played last night at the place we're having this show at and it was pretty cool to see the poster plastered everywhere. (insert sound of air filling my ego) They're are 5 bands in the lineup and I wanted to incorporate an element of each band in the poster because it's a "pop alliance". Mimi suggested bananas to represent "Sexy Accident" and it was a perfect way to throw in some fun surface pattern. It was Steph's idea to have the X eyes on the girl. What can I say? Softee's

My friend Steph had a Sketch Club night. It was really fun. More talking went on than sketching but eh...I kinda figured. Anyway, I really disliked how this was coming out but I realized the more I layered it the more it became this thing I didn't even really see anymore. Which made it more likable?? For me anyway. I think I'm just really rusty so anything I doodle is not going feel steady. Ya gotta start somewhere :)

I drew awhile back that I've always liked. She seems content. And might I add she's full figured. Hey, ain't nothing wrong with alittle junk in the trunk.

and makin' dudes....I've been super busy. But here are some random "men" I drew today...while I should've been doing something else. eh hem...I was listening...with my ears..I swear! My mind and my eyes were busy making awkward drawings of effeminate men. You can probably figure out the first one I did. He's a girl with a mustache pretty much. ALTHOUGH...I think the last dude I drew is pretty grizzly and manly. (lower right) Maybe? I dunno...He's french and chain smokes..yeah, that's it. I mean...drawing dudes is hard if your not a dude. So I find the challenge refreshing. I can make girl faces all day but to be honest, I find it rather boring these days. Anyway...here they are.

Modern Unicorn

Ok...I think I had an artisitc breakthrough.
That sounds very dramatic but I've realized I'm always struggling to balance the ornate/feminine side of my style with the modern blob shapes and simplicity I'm always drawn to. I LOVE modern design and the simplicity of it. But there's still a sense of organic-ness to alot of the modern design I like. And I love old ornate mirrors and frames. Maybe harnessing these artistic struggles are what make people become a better artist? Because without a little struggle how can anything be...good. Uni-yoda has spoken.

More Art Unleashed

A couple more pieces I did for Art Unleashed. These guys sold for a good little bit o' change along with the unicorn twins. My friends and I went to the event and Boy....was it crowded. They used to have quite a spread of food...I could almost use the word feast...yes..feast...it was awesome. But now they just have peeps walking around with trays instead. Well..hey..if your hungry and coming right from work...you're in for some animal behavior. It was funny to see people waiting in the key spots where the waiters would come out with the food. the tray would be empty in seconds. My daughter and I almost jumped a dude with chipotle burritos because we were so hungry. We got our grub and the event made lots of $$$ for the sweet and gentle animals of KC. Let's hope some of the adorable dogs they had there got adopted too.

Last fall Softee did a gig in the middle of Kansas for a LARGE group of girls scouts. Yes...girl scouts, outdoors at a place called Camp Starwoods. And I will never forget it. It was a very magical experience. Those girl scouts were good kids. They gave us hugs and made us sign their foreheads, their frisbees, you name it. They were inspired to see 4 girls get up and play rock and roll..ok..pop. but still...And in turn, we were inspired by their youth and energy. The Girl Scouts in Kansas were merging their groups to one big mega group of honorable do-gooders and wanted to throw a huge party to celebrate which they called "Make New Friends" of course. And so we did.

I'm in a band called Softee with my best girl pals. It's a great outlet for creativity for sooo many reasons.Here are a few posters I've done for our past shows. Tomorrow is my mom's b-day. I didn't want to lame out and order flowers last minute...not that there's anything wrong with sending flowers but I felt like she deserves something alittle more original. So I drew her some flowers. I'm also sending her some Roasterie Coffee, the Kansas City Dark-YUM, cause the woman can drink some coffee. I think it's running through her veins. She sends me Dunkin' Doughnuts from back home so I thought I'd return the favor. I LOVE you Mom!

i'm nervous. my fingers are trembling. my pits are sweaty. nah... i really don't sweat.no but seriously....i've never done my very own blog so i am alittle timid. but...it seems mam's and gram's and all things with posable thumbs are capable of blogging. so here i go. I decided to do it hoping it would motivate me to draw more. Some of my posts will have witty dialogue and when i'm too lazy for that or have no personality i may just post my sketches with caveman grunts. so...watch out world. You need another art blog and it's called Unicorn Poo!!!!
